I could have sworn the lyrics to the new(?) Flyleaf song I heard on the radio were "I felt a dick within me." I guess it's really "I felt it deep within me."

Sorry, v_is_4_vumpler. I thought I should post something when you said that you liked reading entries on your friends list, and this the only thing that came to mind.

Maybe I'll get back to that 30 Day thing at some point. Maybe. In the meantime, here's a fun connect-the-dots puzzle I found while cleaning out my old bedroom. I guess I should warn you that it's a large image and it's kind of NSFW.

Huh huh. She said, 'cleaning out'Collapse )

30-Day Meme - Day 01: Your favorite song
I like too many songs in too many different styles to do this properly.

But I've been thinking, and the song I have settled on at this particular moment is "Let It Be" by The Beatles. It's a peaceful song. Maybe it speaks to the increasingly buried Catholic girl in me. Perhaps I just like The Beatles and this was the first song that popped into my mind. I don't know.

One of many also-rans that I want to mention is "Fell On Black Days" by Soundgarden. 90s alternative will always have a special place in my heart, and lyrically, I love the contrasts.

30-Day Meme
v_is_4_vumpler started this meme a while ago, and I was thinking of giving it a try. Perhaps give me something to do during my suddenly workless days. Maybe use it as a writing warm-up. We'll see what happens. Especially since I'm not very good at picking favorite things and that is what days 1-5 center on.

The listCollapse )

Go to urbandictionary.com, type in your first name, copy and paste.

1. Lorie
Short, cute but friendly.
Always ready to give a huge smile.
Blond moments, but intelligent.
Makes others feel good or content about themselves.
That is a Lorie Move right there,
made me feel good when Colin gave me flowers.

2. Lorie
-One who's seen in a large group of guys dating each one, right after the other
-Referred to as a "homie hopper"
-Most people would say DTF (Down To F**k)
-Not very intelligent or insightful
-Has a lot of "blonde moments"
-Gets really drunk and makes a fool outta herself
-"Is Lorie dating Justin?"
-But yesterday she was dating his best friend Chris wasn't she?"
*"Yup,they call her a HOMIEHOPPER"

I saw this meme on Facebook, but I decided to post it here because I didn't want people I work with wondering if I'm really a "homie hopper". (I'm not, by the way. In case you had any doubts.)

It caught my attention, so I thought I would share.

The first downside to sharing one rental car among three people rears its ugly head. The current dinner plans are to eat somewhere we can watch the Michigan State basketball game.

I'm so glad I added that icon for occasions such as this.
Hot Slots - unlicensed NES...quasi-porn?...peep show, maybe?

I suppose I should warn you that there's a bit of pixelated nudity, if you haven't already figured that out. Along with giggle-worthy dirty talk about cherries and slots.

Because I'm indecisive
I don't know what to read next. I'm not sure what I'm in the mood for. The unread pile on my bookshelf includes:

  • Watchmen
  • Inuyasha vol. 1-3
  • Eragon
  • Fast Food Nation
  • The Road
  • Battle Angel Alita
  • Vagabond vol. 4 (I've never read vol. 1-3. Why do I even have this?)
  • A Contract with God
  • The Sea of Trolls
  • Bel Canto
  • The Pilot's Wife
  • The Kite Runner
  • Reading Lolita in Tehran
  • A Great and Terrible Beauty
  • The Year of Magical Thinking
  • The Color Purple
  • Dovey Coe
  • False Memory
  • Neverwhere
  • The Catcher in the Rye

Any recommendations from anyone who has read any of these?

I'm also kind of hoping that having typed out this list will convince me not to acquire any more books until I've read some of these. But it's so hard to resist the lure of the library.

Everyone should read the Scott Pilgrim series

Update to this post: There's going to be a Scott Pilgrim movie, and it's being directed by Edgar Wright, who directed Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and Spaced. I'm cautiously excited.

Three things I learned during my trip to Florida:

  • A 3-inch binder filled with papers is painfully heavy in a carry-on.
  • My supervisor's stripper name (name of your first pet + street you grew up on) is Lady Wackerly.
  • Plane de-icers are kind of cool looking. Not so cool - the flight from Detroit to Lansing taking longer than driving from Detroit to Lansing would have.

Plus a bonus SkyMall catalog revelation - Footie pajamas for adults.

Since I just blew El Hombre's mind with this knowledge, I thought I should blow some other minds as well (heh...blow).

I have been roleplaying. I joined a Livejournal roleplaying game on a whim, and no one is as surprised as I am that I'm enjoying it.

Still, I think me roleplaying might be one of the signs of the apocalypse.

Given how much friends like the show, I just gave Dr. Horrible another chance and watched the entire thing with full attention (compared to half-watching while El Hombre fast-forwarded through the singing parts he couldn't stomach). There were certainly some good lines that made me laugh. I kind of liked the poignant ending. I'm just not in love with it. I don't know that I even liked it enough to ever want to watch it again.

What am I missing? I don't have a problem with musicals. I watched another one just this week. I've liked the actors when I've seen them in other projects, so I'm not approaching it with an anti-Felicia Day attitude or anything. It seems to be playing to my sense of humor.

Oh well. I guess it just didn't click with me.

I'm still not completely sold on the new version of Fullmetal Alchemist, but this picture is helping win me over.

April is National Poetry Month (a fact I only remember because for some reason I'm still on the mailing list to receive a poster each year despite not teaching since 2003). As part of their celebration of this month, the American Academy of Poets is sponsoring a Free Verse Project asking people to "capture and share your own ephemeral bits of verse." I recommend checking out the photo gallery. There are bits of poetry written in sidewalk chalk, a verse on a lightbulb and several people who wrote on themselves. Someone even wrote some poetry on a pancake.

Now I realize that Evangelion is basically a huge cash cow for its creators, and they will continue to create new DVD box sets and "Rei as a catgirl" figures for years to come. But official boxers? Really?

Although they are somewhat redeemed for labeling one pair the "I mustn't run away!" design.
